Each year, Sigma Kappa alumnae and collegiate chapters and corporations are presented with awards based on the success and reporting of their activities. Collegiate chapters work to earn a Standard of Excellence one star, two star or three star rating, alumnae chapters strive to earn awards centered on programming, recruitment and public relations (to name a few), and corporations strive to reach excellence through the benchmarks set for operations and management. Dr. Anna D. Burke is a board certified geriatric psychiatrist, the Karsten Solheim Chair for Dementia, and the Director of the Alzheimer’s and Memory Disorders Division at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Ariz. She also currently directs the Department of Neuropsychiatry at Barrow Neurological Institute. Barrow Neurological Institute is a world class neurological and neurosurgical institute with a mission to accept challenges, reject norms, and push boundaries. The Barrow Alzheimer’s and Memory Disorders Division is one of the leading clinical and research institutes in the world, championing research in neurodegenerative disorders.
Dr. Burke has worked extensively with patients and families suffering with neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer’s disease. Her area of expertise includes the diagnosis and management of cognitive disorders and the treatment of challenging behavioral and psychiatric disturbances that result from neurological conditions.
Valerie David is the playwright/performer of the award-winning, internationally acclaimed solo show The Pink Hulk: One Woman’s Journey to Find the Superhero Within. She wrote it to find humor and superhero inner strength while going through her three cancer bouts: Stage III Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Stage II breast cancer, and then Stage IV metastatic breast cancer, which she has conquered and continues to beat. The Pink Hulk has been accepted into over 45 festivals/performance engagements and performed in 23 cities in the U.S. and abroad including England, Finland, Sweden, and Iceland. Valerie turned her adversity into art through The Pink Hulk, which inspires and uplifts audiences; her story is told with heartfelt honesty and lots of humor. The show’s mantra: Never, ever give up hope! Valerie conducts improv/writing workshops for groups both internationally and domestically, including for cancer patients and survivors through The Red Door Community. Valerie is a member of Broadway Hearts, where she is part of the Broadway community performing weekly virtual singalongs at children’s hospitals to bring joy to children in need. Cosette Gutierrez is the Executive Director of Latino U College Access (LUCA), a non-profit organization that empowers first generation Latino students on their journeys to and through college. She is a dynamic executive, with a successful career developing talent in nonprofit, retail, and financial service. As a first-gen college graduate, she leverages her life experiences to better support the students and families LUCA serves. Cosette graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a bachelor’s degree in Management Science, and obtained her MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. Cosette’s passion for education stems from her lifelong volunteerism and community leadership. She served on the Board of Directors of Prospanica and Literacy Inc and is a founding member of the Theta Lambda Chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority at MIT. In her spare time, Cosette enjoys photography, volunteering, and traveling the globe with her husband, Al.
Susan McNab has been a business executive for over 40 years—working at major companies like Starbucks, PEMCO Insurance, KOMO TV, the City of Seattle, and Wizards of the Coast. She’s been a leader in a number of unique business challenges like Starbucks’ acquisition of Seattle’s Best Coffee, the unforgettable launch of Pokémon cards, and the acquisition of Dungeons and Dragons with Wizards of the Coast. Sue is a passionate community volunteer and has held board positions with Humanities Washington as President, Girl Scouts of the USA as a National Volunteer Partner and Seattle Rotary, which she has been involved with in various leadership roles since 1987. She is an initiate of Beta Sigma Chapter.
Dr. Linda Cadwell Stancin is currently serving as Vice President, Air Vehicle Engineering at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company. She previously served as Vice President of Research and Technology in Lockheed Martin’s Chief Technology Organization. She also served as the Chair of Lockheed Martin’s Technology Council, executive sponsor of the LM Fellows Program, Chair of the EO Intellectual Property Board, and represented Engineering and Technology on the EO Diversity and Inclusion Council and the corporate Sustainability Leadership Group. Linda is currently on the Board for the Manufacturing Institute MxD. She advises and was an affiliate professor at the University of Washington in Seattle. She received her Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with research in materials science. She has multiple publications and patents. Linda is an initiate of the Mu Chapter at the University of Washington.
Dr. Maria Yang is Associate Dean of Engineering and the Gail E. Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Her research and teaching interests are in product design and development, with a focus on early stage processes to help designers and engineers create products and systems that better serve society. She is the Academic Faculty Director for MIT D-Lab, which focuses on addressing global poverty through participatory design approaches with local communities, and was recently named the Associate Director of the newly launched Morningside Foundation Academy of Design at MIT. She is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and has received the National Science Foundation CAREER Faculty Award and the American Society of Engineering Education Merryfield Design Award. She earned her SB from MIT, and her MS and PhD from Stanford
Dr. Lori S. White is the 21st President of DePauw University. She is the first woman and the first person of color to serve as DePauw's president. Dr. White has spent 30 years working in higher education.
